Welcome to 2018 and our new playground!

Welcome back to Room 3's Blog. We have got an awesome new bunch of learners this year and we can't wait to share some of the exciting things we get up to in Room 3!
Over the summer we have been watching our new playground being built. Today we got to have our first ever play on it! It was really cool! Our favourite things were the slide, the swing and the round about.

Maths Week Fun!

We have been having a great time this week by participating in NZ Maths week. We have had 2 teacher challenges. Mr Lean had to see how many marshmellows he could fit into his mouth, and Dobbie and Jessie had to see how many dry weetbix they could eat! Then we had a contest to see how many basketball shots the teachers could get in, in 4 minutes! It's been so much fun!

In Room3 we have been completing the Maths Week challenges each day on the Maths Week website. We have been working in groups to complete the challenges in order to unlock the secret message. This has been really challenging and our brains have been working super hard!

Tennis

We have been learning to plat tennis during the last 4 weeks. Ngaire has been teaching us lots of games and skills and we are all getting really good! We can play Round the World, Popcorn, and lots of other fun games. Thanks Ngaire!

Scooter Fun!

Today we had lots of fun on our scooters. Marty and his team came and taught us about scooter safety. We now know how to brake safely, how to turn safely, what safety gear we need, and how to watch out for sneaky driveways and other pedestrians. Thank you Marty and Co!

Safety Vests

We have all been given our very own safety vests. We thought they would be great to wear when we are walking, scooting or biking to and from school, and when we are out biking with our families in the weekend. We think we look really cool! We are very easy to see when we are wearing our vests!

Swimming at the Aquatic Centre

For the last 2 weeks we have been travelling into the Aquatic Centre every day for swimming lessons. We have been having a great time, and we have all made amazing progress with our swimming. We have also been learning about boat safety.

Netball Skills

We have just finished having 2 weeks learning about netball and some of the skills we need to play netball. We learnt about passing and moving, and shooting. It was great fun!

Netball Skills

Welcome back to Term 3.

Today we had fun learning about netball.
First we did a warm up with some jogging, skipping and balancing skills and then we learned to do a chest pass. We had races and relays in teams to run around the circle and pass the ball around the circle to see which team would win.  We think the running teams were faster than the throwing teams.

Term 1

Wow! We have had a very busy and exciting start to the year in Room 3! Here are some of our highlights:

A very successful swimming season, with lots of progress made by all.

Buddy reading every Friday with our fabulous buddy class Room 8.

Writing postcards to Karori West School, and getting postcards back from them.

 Watching the life cycle of a monarch butterfly happen in our room.

 Making robots from space.

 Having a visit from Mike Dawson, the Olympic kayak champion.

 Making Easter Bunnies with Mike.

 Learning how to play hockey.

 Going to the car stopping demonstration.

Making hot cross buns!
